Termite Season is here at the Jersey Shore

As the weather gets warmer at the Jersey Shore, more and more pests will begin to pop up.  Warmer weather combined with heavy periods of rain are the ideal conditions for termites to start coming out of the ground, and into your home.  Termites can do thousands of dollars worth of damage in a very short period of time.  Now is the time of the year to have your home inspected for termites at the Jersey Shore.

Flying & Swarming Termites

Flying Termites traditionally come in swarms.  They are most likely to come out when it’s warm and humid out.  Swarms occur when colonies of termites produce winged male and females.  They fly to mate with one another.  These termites will lose their wings after mating.  Flying termites are a major nuisance, and can appear suddenly.

Eastern Subterranean Termites

Subterranean Termites are the most common type found in New Jersey.  They are known to live underground, and travel through mudtubes.  They are the most destructive termite species, and can do significant damage to your property in a matter of weeks.  Not only do they chew through wood, but they build tubes in small cracks in your foundation, which will weaken it.

Hiring a Professional

At the first sign of termites, it is best to call a professional exterminator.  Do it yourself methods aren’t nearly as effective, and will leave you unsure of whether or not you have eliminated the entire threat.  Above All Termite & Pest is based out of Lanoka Harbor, but serves 10 counties in New Jersey.  They offer free quotes, and would be happy to come out and inspect your property
